Bellevue Public Safety Facility

Bellevue, NE | 2014
64,000 sq. ft. – Renovation
4,000 sq. ft. – New Construction

Bellevue, Nebraska, a direct suburb of Omaha and home to Offutt Air Force Base, was in need of facility upgrades to allow for the consolidation and future growth for many departments.

The Police Department alone was fragmented into 5 locations throughout the city, many of which were rental properties which the City paid for monthly. Additionally, the separation hindered inter-department communication. CWPA provided Bellevue with a Feasibility Study that compared options for new construction, renovation of current facilities, and the purchase and renovation of multiple potential existing buildings. Based on the recommendation of the study, Bellevue purchased an existing office building centrally located within the city. CWPA worked with the city to provide design, construction, and Furniture, Fixture, and Equipment coordination services for the complete interior demolition and new construction of the facility.

This new facility is the home to the Bellevue Police Department as well as the City’s Public Works, Planning, and Permits and Inspections Departments. It includes numerous energy efficient and sustainable design elements; specialized high density storage systems for evidence, records and equipment; and multiple department and community meetings/training rooms with flexible space and furnishings. A basement Defensive Training room doubles as a tornado shelter and a fitness center is located adjacent to the Police locker rooms. Office space was provided for City Departments as wells as separate areas for Police Administration, Investigations, Family Crime, Cyber Crime, Patrol, Records, COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services), and K-9. Additional spaces include SWAT briefing, Armory, community “Safe-Room” and a VirTra System, a five person advanced firearms training and combat simulator.

The consolidation of all Police Departments and multiple City services into a central location as well as the inclusion of current technology will make serving and interacting with the public more convenient for the citizens of Bellevue.
